Central Museum

In the middle of the Netherlands and in the middle of their art history: Utrecht and its Central Museum cannot be missed. The “Dom city”, where Rome was never far away between the cathedral and the monastery churches, was the city where Italian painting conquered the Netherlands in the 16th century. Gerard van Honthorst, father and son Bloemaert and Joachim, Wtewael were pioneers, they knew how to bring Caravaccio’s power and contrast to Dutch linen so convincingly, that they changed Dutch painting forever.
